Terms & Conditions
Last updated: May 2026 - Yes, I actually wrote these myself.
Welcome to chrisbmn.com - a personal corner of the internet maintained by one guy (me, Chris) who spends his days wrestling hypervisors and his evenings building things like this. These terms cover chrisbmn.com and its subdomains. By using any of these, you agree to the following. It's not scary. I promise I won't charge you.
What This Site Is
This is a personal website. Not a business. Not a corporation. Not an AI-generated content farm. Just a person with opinions, a homelab, and too many browser tabs open. Content here reflects my own views and experiences - not those of any employer, past or present.
What You Can Do
Pretty much anything reasonable:
- Read the blog. Share links to it. Tell your friends. Tell your enemies. Tell your rubber duck. 🦆
- Reach out via the contact form if something resonates, breaks, or baffles you.
- Quote or reference content with attribution - just link back and we're good.
What You Cannot Do
A short list, because I prefer not to write a novel:
- Scrape and resell my content. If my words are worth monetizing, I'd like a cut. More importantly, just don't.
- Probe or attack this site. I'm an infrastructure engineer. I will notice. And I will be annoyed.
- Pass off my work as your own. Plagiarism is lame in middle school and it's lame now.
- Use this site for anything illegal. This should go without saying. Here I am saying it.
webtools.chrisbmn.com
The tools at webtools.chrisbmn.com are provided free of charge, as-is, with no guarantees of availability, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose. A few specific rules apply given the nature of what the tools do:
The Paste tool
Content submitted through the Paste tool is stored for up to 30 days and is accessible to anyone with the URL. By submitting a paste, you confirm that:
- You have the right to share the content.
- The content does not contain malware, exploit code intended for unauthorized use, or material that is illegal in your jurisdiction.
- You are not submitting passwords, private keys, or sensitive personal data belonging to others.
I reserve the right to delete paste content at any time and without notice. Do not rely on the Paste tool as a permanent storage solution because it isn't one.
Rate limiting and fair use
The tools are for interactive, human use. Automated scripting, bulk scanning, or using the tools in a way that degrades performance for other users is not permitted. The server-side tools impose rate limits; sustained abuse may result in your IP being blocked by the Fail2Ban system.
No warranty on tool output
Results from the webtools site - SSL grades, DNS records, geolocation data, CSR output - are provided for informational purposes. Do not make production security decisions based solely on tool output without independent verification. I'm not responsible if a tool tells you your certificate has 400 days left and it actually expires tomorrow. Verify important things yourself.
Intellectual Property
All original writing, design decisions, and code on this site are copyright © 2013–2026 Chris Budde unless otherwise noted. Third-party trademarks, logos, and brand names belong to their respective owners. I'm just a fan with a keyboard. If you're unsure whether something is fair game to use, just ask. I don't bite. I'm just a guy on the internet. Shoot me an email - worst case I'm asleep.
Accuracy & "As-Is" Content
I try to be accurate. I am also human, occasionally sleep-deprived, and sometimes wrong. Nothing on this site constitutes professional legal, financial, medical, or IT advice - even the IT stuff. Treat blog posts as "here's what worked for me," not "this is definitely the right answer for your production environment." Always test in dev first. Always. Even I test in dev first! Imagine that.
External Links
I link to things I find useful, interesting, or entertaining. A link is not an endorsement of everything that site has ever done or will ever do. The internet changes fast. If a link goes somewhere weird now, that's on the internet, not on me.
Availability
I run this site on my own time and budget. I do my best to keep it up, but I make no guarantees about uptime, response times, or whether the blog will update on any particular schedule. This is a passion project, not a SLA-backed service. The same applies to webtools.chrisbmn.com - individual tools depend on third-party APIs (ip-api.com, etc.) that I do not control and which may be unavailable or rate-limited at any time.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law: if something on this site causes you harm, I'm not liable. If you take my homelab advice and something catches fire - metaphorically or literally - that's on you. This is a personal blog. Proceed accordingly.
Changes to These Terms
I'll update these when needed. The "last updated" date at the top will change. Continuing to visit after an update means you're fine with it. If you're not fine with it, the internet has roughly 1.9 billion other websites you could be visiting instead.
